COOPER TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A man who deputies say crashed his pick-up truck into a home in Cooper Township will be formally charged today after allegedly trying to break into the place and then engaging in a stand-off with Metro SWAT.
He will not only face new charges but a list of previously filed charges.
Sheriff Rick Fuller says the suspect picked the wrong home to ram yesterday on D Avenue in Cooper Township, because he was confronted by a shotgun wielding homeowner who saw him allegedly trying to break in.
The suspect fled to the home next door where the neighbors were gone and allegedly broke in to hide.
The homeowner called 911 and the standoff soon began.
After three hours SWAT entered the home and took the suspect into custody without incident.
He was booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail for home invasion and outstanding warrants pending a bail hearing on Thursday.
