BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — An outbreak of Hepatitis-A that has killed 22 and infected 539 people in Southeast Michigan since August has now apparently spread to Calhoun County.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says three cases that appeared in Calhoun County in November have now been tested and match the strain on the other side of the state.
They are updating surveillance and enhancing coordination to prevent transmission of the serious and highly contagious liver disease.
They say the transmission appears to be through direct person to person spread and illicit drug use.
Health officials say the best way to help prevent getting Hepatitis A is to get an inoculation and to practice good hygiene.
