ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Allegan County Human Services building closed early on Friday, but not because of inclement weather.
According to Facilities Management Director Shawn Stenberg, the alarm system at the building off of 122nd Avenue was activated around 10 AM by possible elevated carbon monoxide levels. After a complete evacuation of staff and visitors, fire personnel confirmed those elevated levels in some areas. No actual gas leaks were found, but temporary ventilation equipment had to be used when an installed ventilation fan wasn’t operating.
Stenberg said that no one was hurt or reported any ailments. The building remained closed for the rest of the day, with repairs to be made through the weekend if necessary so that normal operations for various county offices and state agencies that use the facility can resume on Monday.
