BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — A train pedestrian collision has claimed the life of a young man.
It’s not clear what a 33-year-old man was thinking when he stepped on the tracks in front of a freight train at McCamley Place at about 1:30 on New Year’s Day.
It killed him.
The engineer says he saw the man, and hit the brakes but was too late to stop the train which had built up momentum.
Battle Creek Police say the signal crossing gates and bells were functioning.
They plan to interview his friends and family to try to determine his state of mind.
