LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — A state lawmaker says he is drafting a bill that would prevent Michigan State University, or any Michigan college from using taxpayer funds to pay off sex abuse settlements.
Rep. Klint Kesto says taxpayers should not be nicked for the misdeeds of Larry Nassar.
He says the women deserve justice, but it should be the responsibility of the MSU administration to figure out how to pay for it. Kesto says Penn State has had to pay out $110-million to the victims of its own recent scandal, and there were far fewer victims than in the Nassar case.
The settlements relating to the Nassar case should not be paid for by the current students at MSU or taxpayers.
