KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers had a narrow escape early today when they were fighting a fire on the second floor of a home in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue and the ceiling fell in on them.
Their escape route was blocked by burning debris so they had to be evacuated by ladders.
The fire was spotted by a Sargent on routine patrol just after 1:00 am and called in.
One PSO suffered minor injuries during the 3 hour effort in the bitter cold to staunch all the flames in the old residential structure.
The Fire Marshal was dispatched to the scene to look for the cause of the early morning fire.
