MENDON, MI (WTVB) – Mendon Community Schools Superintendent Roger Rathburn has died, following what is being described as a tragic accident at Sauganash Golf Course in Three Rivers
Michigan State Police told the Sturgis Journal that it appears Rathburn was on a ladder cutting branches from a tree 15 feet off the ground when he was either knocked off the ladder or it gave way.
Troopers were called at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night after family members found him on the ground
The statement from the school district said they had “lost a champion for kids, a visionary leader, and a generous administrator.”
It went on to say that “Rathburn came to Mendon and transformed our school culture with his enthusiasm and his unparalleled commitment. His loss will reverberate throughout our district indefinitely. He was a friend to us all, and we are truly devastated.”
Grief counselors will be available for Mendon students and staff from 9:00 a.m. until noon in the high school office Thursday.
As of midday Wednesday, funeral arrangements are pending.
