LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The attorney for the League of Women Voters, former Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer, says the numbers don’t lie.
Brewer is representing the League in their suit challenging the state’s process for drawing legislative districts, saying Republicans distorted the process by drawing legislative boundaries that favored GOP candidates.
The Lawsuit claims Republican Congressional candidates won just 47.5 percent and 50.5 percent of the statewide vote totals in 2014 and 2016, respectively, but won nine out of 14 seats each year.
The impact on state legislative races was even more lopsided. A spokesperson for the State Republican Party say they obeyed a strict set of rules for drafting the legislative boundaries.
