EMMETT TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A man who stole a child’s gravestone from a cemetery in Barry County has been sentenced.
Police say he ground down the name of the child, and planned to re-use the headstone for a dead relative. 31-year-old Wesley John Carter has been sentenced to 51 months to 20-years for that crime and for possession of Methamphetamine.
Carter had buried the stone in his backyard in Emmett Township, which police found out about by reviewing tapes from Carter’s own home security cameras.
The Tombstone had originally stood over the grave of a 2-year-old who died in 1988.
