BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — A fire destroyed a home early Friday morning at 171 Sherwood drive.
The fire had been burning for a while before crews arrived. Battle Creek firefighters could see smoke from some distance as they approached the location.
Crews had to focus their initial attack from the outside because the ceiling had already collapsed. Fortunately the occupants of the home had escaped well before the fire crews arrived.
Firefighters had to deal with the heat and smoke and intense cold. The Red Cross offered temporary assistance to help the occupants get back on their feet.
