STURGIS (WKZO AM/FM) — Sturgis police are reporting a dramatic rescue after a car rolled down a 50-foot embankment into an inaccessible location, with the victim pinned in the wreckage.
It happened late Wednesday night near Big Hill Road and the old railroad tracks in Sturgis. Deep snow and the location made it difficult to get to the vehicle, and tougher still to carry heavy rescue gear to the site.
It took them an hour to be able to roll the vehicle to free the victim’s arm, which had been pinned between the vehicle, which had rolled on its side, and the tree it was resting against.
The victim had to be carried up the snowy slope, and is recovering at Sturgis Hospital.
The victim’s name and condition were not released.
