LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan Lawmakers have completed work on several bills designed to address the opioid crisis, the House concurring with Senate changes, sending them to the Governor’s desk wrapped in a big bow for Christmas.
One package would require that doctors have a verifiable relationship with patients before prescribing opioids, and that doctors give a complete explanation of the effects and addictive nature of the painkillers they prescribe.
Another requires they get parental consent for scripts for children.
Mattawan Rep. Beth Griffin’s package of bills creates an age appropriate educational curriculum on opioids for schools.
Another set of bills would require that doctors check with The MAPS drug tracking system to make sure patients are not getting multiple prescriptions for the same ailment.
That’s a whole stack of packages for the Governor to open and sign during the Christmas break.
