SOUTH HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Barking dogs at night can keep people awake, but for a South Haven area family, they can thank their canines for allowing them to have more days to be awake.
According to South Haven Area Emergency Services, an unnamed homeowner was roused from his sleep around 9:30 PM last night at his residence off of M-43 near 16th Avenue by the barking of his dogs. He was able to safely get other family members and the canines out of the house, along with a vehicle parked in an attached garage, before the flames fully engulfed the garage and a breezeway. Crews were able to keep some of the blaze away from the residence itself.
There were no reports of any injuries to the residents or crew members, and a cause of the fire remains under investigation.
