LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – With the Federal Communications Commission’s vote still planned for Thursday on ending “net neutrality” as it currently exists in the US, the argument about Internet access affordability is being heard on more than just the nationwide level.
State House Republican Mary Whiteford of the South Haven area is putting the finishing touches on proposed legislation that would help those in rural area in acquiring online access. In her monthly appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town,” the lawmaker said, “It’s reallly, really expensive to be able to connect into a local fiber network or to just even get into any kind of broadband network, so I’m working on a way to have grants to have people be able to afford this.”
Whiteford hopes to introduce the bill when the Legislature reconvenes after the first of the year.
