PORTAGE (WKZO AM/FM) — A K-9 sniffed out a wanted felon hiding in a pile of leaves early this morning after he smashed up his mini-van trying to get away from police.
A Portage Public Safety officer spotted the van with improper plates heading north on Portage Road just before midnight. Before the officer could attempt to pull the van over, the driver of the minivan sped up and took the I-94 ramp, losing control on the curve and disabling the van when he hit the curb.
The Officer switched on his overhead lights and the driver ran off on foot.
The K-9 sniffed him out about a quarter mile from the crash site. The suspect was taken into custody for the outstanding warrants and a couple of new charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, early this morning.
