KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — What is “Job one” for Kalamazoo City Commissioners? There was a mild difference of opinion over the answer to that question last night when the newest Commissioner, Eric Cunningham expressed the thought that the work they were doing with the groundbreaking Foundation for Excellence will be absolutely critical.
He says it will impact the lives of their children, and their children’s children.
Mayor Bobby Hopewell held up the City Manager’s $155-million budget proposal which was fresh off the printer, and disagreed with Cunningham.
He says it’s the budget that keeps the water flowing, the toilets flushing, and the PSO’s on the streets.
He says the Foundation is just one of the things that keeps the budget funded.
Last night they set December 18th for their first budget hearing. They have to take final action on next year’s spending plan by February 1st.
