LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A bill has been introduced to crack down on distracted driving, but this time it involves pets.
When you think of distracted driving, most think of using your cellphone or eating while driving, not having your dog on your lap. That could change if the bill passes.
Democratic state Representative LaTanya Garrett of Detroit says if the bill is enacted, there will be a $100 fine for a first offense and a $200 fine for every other time someone is caught with their dog in their lap behind the wheel.
There is an exception that would be under the Americans With Disabilities Act if the dog is there for a medical reason.
