COMSTOCK (WKZO AM/FM) — The State Police Fire Marshall has reported multiple code violations at the Comstock Motor Court Hotel, where a woman died in a fire earlier this month.
Most striking is the fact that there were no working smoke detectors.
They say the fire began at about 3 am and was due to accidental causes. They were able to contain the fire to that unit and there were no other injuries.
One unit at the hotel had already been condemned due to multiple violations. Lt. James VanDyken says the motel is being required to bring itself up to code.
The business could still be liable to civil suit.
While rental units in the City are regularly inspected, there is no such team of inspectors working township businesses.
