OAKLAND COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — A 22-year-old who struck and killed an Oakland County Deputy has been ordered held without bond.
Authorities say Christopher Berak claimed he was God in a jail intercom speaker and wanted to break one of his “followers” out of jail Thanksgiving morning.
He led police from several agencies on a high speed 22-mile chase that ended when they claim the young man intentionally struck and killed Oakland County Deputy Eric Overall.
Berak has been charged with premeditated first degree murder and killing a peace officer.
Overall was trying to deploy stop strips to blow out Berak’s tires and end the dangerous chase, which began in Lapeer County and continued into Oakland County.
Berak has a record of busts for marijuana and fleeing from police.
He was on parole in Macomb County for driving under the influence of marijuana when the officer was killed. He also has a record of mental health issues.
He rolled his car after striking the officer and was arrested after he was extricated from the wreck.
