KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Public Safety Department has gotten an early Christmas Present from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The City will receive $1,375,000 in funding under the Community Oriented Police Services hiring program. They will be able to hire 11 new Public Safety Officers with the funding.
Kalamazoo is one of five agencies in the state to get the grant.
The Department of Justice received over 11-hundred applications for the grants during the 2017 open solicitation period and only made awards to 179 agencies.
In the 23-years since the federal program was signed into law, they have invested more than $14-billion putting 130,000 additional officers on the streets of America.
