KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Sheriff Richard Fuller says deer hunting season isn’t as big a problem for law enforcement as you might think.
He says most hunters have done it for a while and know about gun safety, the importance of wearing Hunter’s orange, and the rules on where they are permitted to hunt.
He says it’s important that hunters let people know where they are going and to take a cell phone just in case there are problems. If they can they should go out with friends so that if one of them gets in trouble, the others can help.
He says all that activity in the woods can be frightening for the deer, which in turn can become frightening for drivers in rural areas.
He says the deer may not always look both ways when they are fleeing for their lives and drivers have to watch out for them.
He says he has a lot of avid hunters on his staff who take time off during this period to participate in the seasonal hunt.
