KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — Last night Kalamazoo Township Trustees held a joint meeting with their Planning and Zoning Boards to consider a new medical marijuana ordinance for first reading.
They were presented a document with a lot of unfilled blanks.
Manager Dexter Mitchell concedes that they see new directives from the state on a daily basis.Trustee Steve Leuty says this is no way to formulate policy.
The board filled in some of the blanks in the ordinance but they were not ready to approve it for first reading. Their Attorney will supply a new draft in time for their regular Monday night meeting.
There is some pressure to act quickly. Municipalities that are not ready to go on December 15th, when the state starts accepting applications may get left behind as developers race to get into production, and locate where local ordinances are in place.
