KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Thousands of school children from all over the region are getting their first exposure to some of the choices they will be able to choose from to make a living at a two day Job Quest event at the Expo Center in Kalamazoo.
From trash haulers to high tech engineering, from TV-broadcaster to emergency medical technician, firms in area businesses require all sorts of skills, some that require college and many high paying jobs in the skilled trades do not.
K-RESA Assistant Superintendent Deb Miller says many children know what their relatives do for a living and just aren’t exposed to what is possible or have a goal to work towards.
She says if they can come away inspired by a particular profession, they can begin working toward that goal in the classroom, which makes the content more relevant.
Wednesday, students from Kalamazoo schools were bused to the event. Thursday children from Calhoun and Cass Counties were scheduled to be brought over to take a look.
