NEW YORK (WKZO AM/FM) — In a terrorist attack that is eerily similar to the Times Square attack that killed Alyssa Elsman of Portage, and Kalamazoo’s bicycle tragedy. 8 people have been killed and eleven others have been injured in New York City.
Initial information claims that Sayfullo Saipov of Tampa, Florida rented a truck from Home Depot and then deliberately traveled down a bike lane, hitting cyclists and pedestrians, and then crashed into a school bus.
The suspect jumped from the disabled pickup truck with two guns in his hands and ran from the scene.
He reported yelled “God is Great” in Arabic as he ran. He was confronted by a police officer who shot him in the abdomen. It turned out he was armed with a paint gun and a pellet gun.
The suspect is being treated for his wound at an undisclosed hospital.
New York officials says residents shouldn’t let this disrupt their schedules, that altering how we behave and what we do is a victory for the terrorists.
A planned Halloween Parade was not cancelled. They beefed up security for the event and at key locations around the city but are urging people to go about their business.
