BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) The Battle Creek School District is among seven other troubled school systems that will be asked to partner with the State Superintendent to turn around test scores and improve academic achievement.
MIRS news reports they will be approached soon.
The Partnership model was devised by the Department of Education after threats from the Snyder Administration to close down low achieving school buildings prompted lawsuits from Kalamazoo, Saginaw and Detroit Schools.
Under the partnership model, the Districts would be required to set goals, apply resources and achieve improvements, but the plan will come from the local district which will remain in total control of the schools.
Once they are notified, they will have 90-days to submit an improvement plan, or they could face more serious interventions.
Kalamazoo has two schools in the program.
Besides Battle Creek, Lansing and Wayne-Westland public schools and four charter schools are expected to be asked to draft partnership agreements.
