LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — A new measure that would permit the victims of violence and abuse to have their addresses hidden, has been introduced to the media in Lansing by Senators Margaret O’Brien and Rick Jones.
O’Brien, of Portage, says 37 other states already have similar laws on the books protecting the victims of domestic and sexual abuse and stalking from being victimized again.
O’Brien says for many women and children, “this is a matter of life and death.”
Government agencies and schools would be issued code numbers and post office boxes would be used that that would shield the actual addresses of victims.
They say they still have a few details to work out, like which state agency will administer it and they hope to introduce it in a few weeks.
