KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A 7 am Sunday fire in the Edison Neighborhood proved to be too dangerous to fight initially because the occupant had a large supply of fireworks in the home.
Lt. Rafael Diaz says they had to keep their distance from the home at Lake and Cottage for safety sake. He says it sounded like the Fourth of July when he rolled up, but it was a lot more dangerous because the fireworks were out of control.
Apparently one of the occupants is licensed to put on fireworks displays and kept a stockpile in the home. It took two hours to bring the fire in the century old home under control.
There were no reports of any injuries.
There were reports that the fire started on the porch, and that its not the first fire at the address in the last week, and that’s why it is being investigated .
