HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – State Representative Daniela R. Garcia has announced her candidacy for the 30th State Senate District.
The district includes all of all of Ottawa County and the Senate seat is currently held by Senator Arlan Meekhof who is term limited. Garcia currently serves as the State Representative from the 90th District which encompasses the cities of Holland, Hudsonville and Zeeland and the townships of Holland, Jamestown and Zeeland.
Garcia says there are a variety of issues she’d like to work on if she is elected to the Senate.
“Specifically I spend a lot of time talking to our businesses and community asking them what their needs and concerns are. Something that has come to light over the last couple of years is that we have a talent and traction issue. Which is far different in what we saw in the last decade where we had a lot of folks who were leaving the state of Michigan and jobs were hard to come by. Well now Ottawa County has the unemployment rate and we have some issues on how we attract and retain that talent. In addition we need to figure out how we can open up that pipeline for maybe some of our younger students to get into the workforce and prepared for career and not just college.”
The Holland native who says she was born with her wooden shoes on will be running against the one-time Holland City Councilman and state House Representative Joe Haveman.
State Representative Roger Victory has not confirmed if he will throw his hat in for a Senate run.
