KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A couple of notable retirements have been announced in the community.
According to Metro Transit Board Member Nicolette Leigh, Linda Teeter, the former City Commissioner who steered the effort to create a Metro Transit Authority in Kalamazoo County, has apparently announced she will be retiring.
One of the first major successes involving intergovernmental cooperation was only expected to take a year or two, ended up taking many years to complete.
She has been chairman of the board for some time now.
It will be up to the Kalamazoo County Board to replace her. Leigh says Teeter will be missed.
Don Nitz has also announced his plan to retire tthis coming spring. The Former Director of the Kalamazoo Juvenile Home was hired in 2006 to take over the Lakeside facility for troubled youth, which had been racked by disciplinary issues and nearly closed down.
It has since been rejuvenated and expanded. A search for his replacement is underway. He says he plans to retire next spring after his replacement is found.
