LAS VEGAS, NV (WTVB) – A Sturgis native along with four of her friends survived the mass shootings in Las Vegas Sunday night.
A gunman who fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino killed at least 59 persons and injured over 500 others as a large crowd of country music fans attended the Route 91 Harvest Festival.
23-year-old Alexandra Brazo told the Sturgis Journal that she and two of her friends got as low as they could when the gunfire erupted. Two other friends were in the rear of the crowd.
They ran between rounds of gunfire and ducked when it resumed. The three women managed to get back together with their other friends and eventually made their way to safety.
She also described for the Sturgis Journal how many people helped total strangers get to safety even though they may have been in the line of fire.
Brazo is a 2012 graduate of Sturgis High School and is attending UNLV.
