KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A young man has been charged with driving drunk, causing a serious injury after he allegedly struck a 21-year-old on Lafayette Street, just west of the WMU Campus early Saturday morning.
21-year-old Gabriel Watkins has also been charged with another 5-year- felony, leaving the scene of an injury accident, but face more serious charges if the victim, 21-year-old Nicholas West, who was admitted to Bronson Methodist with critical head injuries, takes a turn for the worst.
Watkins had to be hunted down after he fled the scene and was later arrested on Westbrook Street.
Watkins is being held on $10,000 bond in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
The current condition of the 21-year-old victim has not been released.
