HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two individuals with West Michigan have been nominated for ambassadorships in Europe.
Former Congressman Pete Hoekstra of Holland and Richard Grenell who was born in Muskegon , who have been nominated by President Trump to serve as the Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
Richard Grenell who was born in Muskegon and later graduated from Jenison High School is the longest serving U.S. spokesman at the United Nations having from 2001-2008. In 2001, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as Director of Communications and Public Diplomacy for the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Grenell has been a Fox News Contributor and frequently writes and comments on foreign affairs.
Grenell along with former Congressman Pete Hoekstra of Holland both had successful confirmation hearings before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee says Zeeland Congressman Bill Huizenga.
“It’s pretty unusual to have our area having two Western European Ambassadors coming out. It was a great day for Pete and Diane Hoekstra and obviously what an amazing story having been born in the Netherlands, moving here when he was four. The son of a baker, his Dad got to watch him become a U.S. Congressman and now being able to be the countries representative back top his come country as a citizen.”
Huizenga adds that he looks forward to seeing both of these nominees voted out of committee and then confirmed by the full Senate.”
