PRAIRIEVILLE TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — Barry County Deputies are holding a 69-year old Prarieville Township resident in custody while they sort out why he shot and killed a 49-year-old man at the farm where they both lived in southern Barry County.
The shooting occured at 15069 Burchette Road in Southwest Barry County just before 2 a.m. Saturday.
The first Deputies on the scene began life-saving efforts on the younger of the two men, and handed off to EMS crews but the victim could not be saved.
No names have been released. Detectives are trying to determine if the shooting was justified homicide committed in self-defense, or whether murder charges were pursued.
The older man reportedly shot the victim with a shotgun.
They have a person of interest in custody, but they are not yet calling it a murder.
No other information or names are being released as the investigation is ongoing and next of kin have to be notified.
