PLAINFIELD TWP, MI (WHTC) – A Michigan State Police trooper who was to be married in October, has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash.
In a press release, Michigan State Police (MSP) say Timothy O’Neill died in a crash while on duty Wednesday morning that involved his motorcycle and a truck.. The crash occurred around 7:45 a.m. in Plainfield Township at Wolverine Boulevard and Belding road. Authorities have not released any details.
Col. Kriste Kibbey Etue, director of the MSP released this statement:
“It is with a very heavy heart that I confirm the death of one of our own. I ask that you please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers in the difficult days ahead.”
O’Neill is survived by his mother, father, brother, sister and fiancé.
According to Kibbey Etue, “The MSP wishes to acknowledge our many law enforcement partners and emergency responders who assisted at the scene and who continue to provide support to our department during this difficult time. We also want to thank the staff and medical professionals at Spectrum Health Butterworth for their outstanding care.”
It was just over two years ago that State Trooper Chad Wolf was also killed while on motorcycle patrol. It happened on I-75 near Clarkston, when his bike tangled with a trailer and the driver dragged him for miles before realizing what had happen. That driver was found innocent on all charges.
