CASS COUNTY (WKZO AM/FM) — Wednesday was a long, hot and frustrating day for Faust, the Cass County K-9 who was deployed for a pair of manhunts yesterday.
The first involved two home invasion suspects who fled from a home they had just robbed in Lagrange Township at 8:30 am, abandoned their getaway car in a cornfield and tried to escape cross country on foot.
Deputies were able to capture one of the suspects but the other got away.
At 5:30 pm, a man who was spotted traveling at 96mph in Penn Township fled on foot from a traffic stop.
Faust was deployed and tracked the suspect for 3.4 miles through woods and cornfields before he began to show signs of heat exhaustion and they called off the search.
The suspect was later captured also suffering from heat exhaustion. After a stop at the hospital for treatment, he was taken to jail.
