KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — It was a light hearted, optimistic and tradition filled Inauguration ceremony for Dr. Ed Montgomery, the new President at WMU, to kick off CommuniVerCity weekend.
Hundreds attended the ceremony at Miller Auditiorium Friday as Dr. John Dunn handed over the medallion that symbolizes the Presidency at WMU. Dr. Montgomery’s bright red robes are Harvard Crimson, not just a fashion statement.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Montgomery talked about the deep connections between the University and the community, which began over 100 years ago when the city fought to have the state legislature, locate a college in Kalamazoo.
He also talked about taking the university to the next level, and a thirst he heard from many to make it happen. Montgomery is the ninth president of Western Michigan University.
His inauguration was followed by a picnic on the plaza in front of Miller Auditorium.
