BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — It will be a long weekend for William Wolters of Calhoun County, who spent the last week on trial for alleged sexual assaults on two young girls.
A girl who was 15 at the time of the alleged crimes testified she had no recollection of any assaults but her younger sister testified there were drugs, alcohol and sex, .
The Homer man took the stand and testified that he was taking anti-depressants last year that made him impotent, denying allegations that he gave the girls drugs and alcohol.
Two former inmates testified that they heard Wolters admit to the crimes, but they were dismissed as jailhouse snitches by the defense during closing arguments.
The jury deliberated for five hours on the four first degree criminal sexual conduct charges that Wolter faces, before breaking for the weekend. The 12 jurors will report back on Monday morning to try to reach a verdict.
