ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – One individual is dead and the other seriously injured when a flatbed trailer they were standing on was struck by a vehicle in Gun Plains Township.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene on 10th St. near 110th Ave.around 9:30 p.m. Thursday evening. Upon arrival deputies found one severely injured individual and one subject who was deceased on the scene.
Investigation shows that a vehicle was disabled on the side of 10th St. and two subjects were working on it and an attached heavy flatbed trailer. A second vehicle traveling northbound did not see the vehicle and trailer and clipped the back of the trailer. This vehicle sustained significant damage, but the occupants suffered only minor injuries.
One subject who was standing on the trailer was seriously injured and was transported for treatment. The second subject suffered obvious fatal injuries and was deceased on the scene. The question of visibility is still being investigated.
The second vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts and alcohol does not appear to be involved. Names of the individuals involved will be released in the future.
Several family members of the victims were on scene and witnessed the crash.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Gun Plains fire dept. and Wayland EMS.
