DORR, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – One person is dead after wrecking their pickup on U.S. 131 in Dorr Township.
According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office at about 10:25 p.m. Thursday evening, a deputy from was northbound on US-131 near 135th Avenue when he observed a vehicle approaching from behind him swerving all over the roadway. The deputy attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle just north of 135th Avenue on US-131.
The vehicle continued northbound on US-131 eventually pulling over onto the shoulder of the highway. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver drove away northbound on US-131. The deputy attempted to catch up with the vehicle when the driver turned off the vehicle’s lights. The vehicle then lost control south of 142nd Avenue on US-131and struck the cable barriers and overturned numerous times in the southbound lanes of US-131 near 142nd Avenue.
The driver whose name has not yet been released was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Assisting on scene was Dorr Fire Department, Wayland EMS, Michigan State Police and Wayland City Police Department.
