BYRON TOWNSHIP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Bones found in Byron Township near the Kent Trails last week have been identified as mastodon bones.
Experts with the University of Michigan say the bones are around 10,000 years old. The housing developer Eagle Creek Homes owns the land and have not said what they will do with the bones.
The mastodon, which is said to have looked similar to the woolly mammoth, is Michigan’s state fossil.
