KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — It appears that Charles Pickett Jr., the Battle Creek man charged with mowing down nine members of the Chain Gang Bicycle Club near Markin Glen Park in Cooper Township last summer, will have his trial date pushed back to December 1.
Defense Attorney Alan Koenig is taking pre-trial appeals to the Michigan Supreme Court after the appellate court refused to consider his challenge.
Koenig said certain statements that Pickett made following the crash at the hospital should be suppressed and that second degree murder charges are not warranted by the facts.
Five died and four were seriously injured in the crash.
