LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Enbridge has revealed that it’s discovered a few small areas where the enamel coating on the Line 5 pipeline has gaps of a just a few square inches, exposing metal to the elements.
It sparked renewed calls from environmental groups to immediately shut down the pipeline.
Governor Rick Snyder says he was “greatly concerned” about the news, and says he has directed state agencies to accelerate their aggressive review of all Enbridge operations in the state, not just Line 5.
The DNR, DEQ and Homeland Security say they want more inspections of the pipeline near anchors, after indications that work on the anchors may have caused the damage.
Attorney General Bill Schuette reiterated his call for a timetable to close the pipeline.
