DEARBORN (WKZO-AM/FM) — AAA says it’s expecting over 1 million Michiganders to travel for Labor Day.
Spokesperson Susan Hiltz says that is a healthy number, but increased gas price volatility could keep some people home.
“We don’t know the total effect Hurricane Harvey will have on our gas prices, but we have seen increases,” Hiltz said. “Currently, Michigan’s average is at $2.51, so it is kind of inching up.”
Still, drivers should expect freeways and highways to be busy.
“The largest amount of traffic will be seen Friday through Monday,” Hiltz said. “Those are higher-risk times for traveling.”
The auto club says Labor Day is, historically, the third-most traveled holiday of the summer.
