DETROIT, MI (WKZO-AM/FM) – The Detroit Lions are reportedly making quarterback Matthew Stafford the highest paid player in the NFL.
At least, until someone cuts a bigger deal.
Detroit announced it has agreed to a five-year contract extension with Stafford that keeps him with the team through the 2022 season.
The Lions did not issue numbers, but NFL.com claims the deal is worth $135 million. That’s $27 million per season.
That’s for a quarterback who has been with the club for nine years, but has never been close to a Super Bowl.
Stafford was Detroit’s number-one pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
