BARRY COUNTY (WKZO-AM/FM) — Consumers Energy is going to flip the switch and plunge about 2,500 homes and businesses into darkness this Saturday night on purpose.
Utility crews plan to connect a new, high-voltage power line to a substation near Delton and can’t do it while the juice is flowing. They have mailed postcards to the customers in the affected area, which includes parts of Hope, Baltimore, Barry and Prairieville Townships.
The outage will begin at around 11 p.m. and could last up to eight hours. The utility says it could be a good idea to get fresh batteries for the radio and the flashlight, charge up the cell phone and the laptop and try to keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed.
