OAKLAND COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In 1995, Jonathan Schmitz of Oakland County told police he was humiliated when 32-year-old Scott Amadure revealed on the Jenny Jones Show that he had a gay crush on Schmitz.
They knew each other but Schmitz insisted he was not gay and three days later Schmitz shot Amadure to death.
That episode of Jenny Jones was taped but never aired.
Schmitz was given 25 to 50 years for the killing, and was released by the parole board for good behavior from a Michigan prison Tuesday.
The Amadure family questioned whether he was ready to be released but Prison officials were satisfied that he had addressed his homophobia and could be a productive member of society again.
Back in the 1990’s the Amadure family hired trial attorney Jeffrey Feiger to sue Jenny Jones and the producers, claiming they were also responsible for what happened. A jury determined that The Jenny Jones Show should pay the Amadure family $25 million.
