LAWTON (WKZO-AM/FM) — A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Lawton, in Van Buren County, on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the rail line said the Wolverine 355 was headed toward Chicago from Detroit after having left the Kalamazoo station when it struck the man at about 9:45 p.m. Investigators are trying to determine what the man was doing on the tracks and why he didn’t get out of the way.
The train was stopped for a couple of hours before it was allowed to go on its way.
The name of the victim has not been released.
It would be the second time a train has hit a pedestrian in the area in as many days. A 53-year old man suffered leg injuries when he was run over by a frieght train in downtown Kalamazoo Tuesday night. His name has also not yet been released.
