KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM/FM) — While the nation has lurched from the failure to reform healthcare, to threats from North Korea, to Charlottesville and the rise of hate groups, some locally would like to revisit the healthcare issue.
Local activists who are worried that the issue remains unresolved held a rally on East Michigan Avenue in front of the field office of Congressman Fred Upton to promote the idea of universal healthcare, what they call a single payer healthcare system, or “Medicare for all.”
Becky Baldwin, a retired nurse and member of the Michigan Nurses Association, said most of the leading industrialized nations in the world, and a few that we might consider backward have healthcare for all, but not the United States.
Right now, just getting Democrats and Republicans to work together on fixing the current system appears to be beyond the reach of legislative leaders.
