GENEVA TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A suspect was sought over the weekend following a Friday morning robbery of a convenience store near South Haven.
According to the office of Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott, the suspect walked into the Phoenix Quick Stop off of County Road 687 just before 9:00 a.m., pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the clerk on duty, and demanded cash from the cash registers. While the suspect was grabbing the money, the victim was able to run away from the counter and out of the building, screaming in the process. The suspect then jumped into an older-model Chevrolet Impala and drove off onto southbound County Road 687. The clerk was shaken but unhurt.
The vehicle was described as having damage to the right front end, tinted windows and an unknown Michigan registration plate. The subject was seenn wearing dark blue trousers, black shoes, a light blue hooded sweatshirt, a ball cap with a camo pattern on the brim, and some type of black mask on the lower half of his face.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, Silent Observer or Crime Stoppers.
