OSHTEMO (WKZO AM/FM) — They held a barbeque behind the Red Cross Headquarters in Oshtemo Township to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the organization Thursday night.
Spokesperson Vickie Eichstaedt says the local chapter began the same year as the National Organization as they were mobilized to help in the war effort during World War I.
While they may have been commissioned by the U.S. Government, they rely solely on donations to fund their operations.
They served water from emergency response trucks and put out displays of memorabilia from the last century under field tents at their party.
